GP, broadcaster and author Margaret McCartney will talk about why evidence based medicine is important - and how knowing about hidden bias, conflicts of interest, and a bit of statistics can help us each make better health choices.

Last year Professor Martin Hendry set the scene for us by talking about Lord Kelvin. What he did not point out was that Lord Kelvin asserted in 1900 that Physics is ‘finished’! Hear how, a few years later in 1905, Einstein’s Theory of Relativity showed Kelvin’s position was misjudged.

Peter Drummond, conservation architect and heritage consultant, presents the history and development of Glasgow’s “front room” from the 17th Century to the present today – including John McAslan’s current, bold proposals to reinvigorate the Square. (Storm damage caused this talk to be postponed last year)

Tucked away in the dramatic Highland landscape of Glencoe lies a treasure trove of untold stories, hidden for centuries beneath the earth.

Now, with the support of the National Trust for Scotland, a team of archaeologists and students from the University of Glasgow, along with a variety of volunteers, have spent a second year digging in Glencoe. They aim to grow our understanding of this crucial chapter of Scottish history and the years leading up to the Massacre of Glencoe in 1692.

The Raploch String Ensemble, a group of young musicians from The Big Noise programme in Stirling, will play a selection of pieces across classical, trad and folk genres. As is our MIA tradition, light refreshments will follow, with a chance to chat to fellow members.
